Suggested Answering approach:

1(a)

Students should point out that the goals of economic construction under the Nanjing Govnt are
- to modernise the manufacturing sector, agriculture (SOURCE A);
- to revitalise the production of silk, cotton and tea (SOURCE B); and to
- create an industrial base that would support the nation's armed force.    (3 marks)

(b) NO. Since Source A revealed that "the irrigation projects were utterly insignificant relative to China's needs..."
Source B: "these reform projects had slight impact on the rural areas..."
Source C: "the Commission suffered from financial shortages"

Nearly all the reform programmes could not be implemented OR accomplished since China had insufficient fund and those programmes were not carried out properly.

(c) Yes to a large extent. (Quote the supporting argument from Source C, mentioning that the Commission was lack of funding.)
- candidates would score only 1 mark if they could not refer back to the sources when answering the question.

Students in general should agree that financing constituted the largest obstacle to economic development. Other ideas and opinions can be accepted as well as long as they are well-elaborated with detailed examples.

2(a)
- co-existence and interaction between western and Chinese cultures.
- list examples shown from Sources D and E

(b) supportive view/positive attitude
- all street names are clearly marking in English and Chinese
- the media has played an important role in sustaining public interest and fascination about the place.

(c) - linked the idea with the words "a strange world" mentioned in Source E

3(a)
- St. Vitus’s Day
- "a historical important place to Serbia and the Serbs."
- other relevant quotes from the source

(b) disapproved towards Milosevic's policy since
(view)
e.g.
- disapproved towards Milosevic's policy since
- Milosevic’s policy is destructive/ threatening to peace
- Milosevic’s policy results in his losing popularity in home
(evidence)
e.g.
- the walls are destroyed
- Milosevic’s picture in the house is slanted
- there are missiles in his house
- ethnic cleansing should not be used

(c)
L1 Vague argument with little attempt to draw upon relevant historical facts to
support the answer [1 mark]
L2 Clearly-explained answers making due reference to relevant historical facts [max. 4 marks]

- Milosevic’s racial cleansing policy brought about the numerous conflicts in
Kosovo and finally led to the Kosovo Crisis in 1998
- The Kosovo Crisis resulted in numerous casualties of the Serbs and especially
the Kosovar Albanians
- Milosevic was ousted from power in the 2000 election

4.
(a) - the USA and the UN
(b) - policies carried out were not legally binding
- it has to follow the big superpowers (e.g. the USA) since
- the UN relies heavily on the loans and funds provide by the USA
- policies were banded once they violate the interests of the superpowers
- quote examples

(c) - setting up of United Nations Population Fund
- show clues
- organising Earth summits and conferences
- advocating family planning in the third world

1. WWI - WWII :inter-war period

Cold War - cause/development/detente/end of cold war (including Perestroika and Glasnost put forth by Gorbachev)
It is said that during the times of Cold War, the USA and USSR at one hand confronted with each other, but at the same time they did cooperate together. Evaluate and give comment to support/disapprove this statement. (30 marks)

3. International Cooperation
4. Regional conflicts and the role of UN/international cooperation
5. SE Asia decolonisation methods and causes. How far did Japan play an active role in the process?

China

Hong Kong

Japan

SE Asia

Theme B

2. Balkan
Yugoslavia

Post題先:
Assess the importance of nationalism as a cause of the following wars.
a)        the First Arab-Israeli War (1948-49)                                         (15 marks)
b)        the Yugoslav Civil War (1991-99)                                           (15 marks)

philipyim22 2008-4-9 10:42 PM

同埋Moderisation effort of Early Republican Govnt呢個係乜野黎?

horace 2008-4-9 11:42 PM

而hk history 佔theme a比重幾大

有時題目問你個cartooner/author 既 attitude 呢 , 係咪通常答 positive/negative 就可以嫁啦?

Ronald_Chui 2008-4-10 06:14 PM

view - disapproved, supportive, or 引原文既字
attitude - positive/negative/neutral

waimewmew 2008-4-10 06:18 PM

:loveliness:

korie 2008-4-10 06:30 PM

Nanjing governmet -0-
Late Qing DBQ = =
