Many parents in Hong Kong are sending their children to other countries to completetheir schooling. Write an article for your school magazine examining tworeasons for this phenomenon. You should also discuss the impact of this onlocal schools and on children who leave to study overseas.

Sendingchildren to other countries: reasons and impacts

Parents in Hong Kong send their children to other countries complete their schooling isa prevailing trend. Whether sending children to other countries for schoolingis good or not is a controversial and debatable issue which deserves ourattention. There are manifold reasons for this trend, namely the discrepancybetween the education systems of the two and the significance of possessingbasic life skills.

To commence with, the discrepancy between the education systems of the two contributesa lot to the phenomenon. On the whole, the learning environment, schools andeducation system overseas are much better. A numerous number of parents wanttheir children to study in some world-renowned colleges, Oxford, Cambridge, toname but a few. Moreover, as it is said that if we mean to learn a language, wehad better study it in that place. Many parents send their children to othercountries so that they can learn a new language more accurately andefficiently. To acquire a new language is to be competitive in society so thatfewer obstacles will be faced, like when they are finding a job. On thecontrary, the education system in Hong Kong is notoriously known on the groundthat Hong Kong students always have to prepare for a myriad of tests andexaminations. The education system is said to be identical to spoon-feeding andHong Kong students learn by rote. In view of the above, it is sensical thatmanifold parents in Hong Kong send their children to other countries tocomplete schooling.

Another point which can be added that parents want their children to learn some basicbut significant life skills, namely decision making, problem-solving, socialskills, communication skills and time management skills. These skills areself-explanatory to be essential as they grow up. Take communication skills asan example. If they are unable to communicate with others efficiently, otherswill not understand what they are attempting to say. As a result, their wordsfall on deaf ears. In spite of the importance of having these skills, studentscannot learn these in Hong Kong on the ground that the education system placestoo much emphasis on academic excellence. Students are also forced to havethese skills as they have to look after themselves. Thus, many parents in HongKong send their children to study overseas.

In view of the phenomenon that many parents in Hong Kong send their children toother countries to complete their schooling, there are inevitable impacts onlocal schools and on children who leave to study overseas.

First and foremost, local schools will face big challenges in enrolling students. Asmost of the talented student study overseas, the number of students studying inHong Kong will significantly reduce, resulting in the closure of schools andloss of talented students.

On top of that, students studying overseas will face adversities as well. Whenthey first go to a new place, because of the discrepancy in languages andcultures, they may not adapt to the new environment. As a result, many of themface bullying and discrimination.

In a nutshell, many parents send their children to other countries to completetheir schooling due to the discrepancy between the education systems and thesignificance of possessing basic life skills. Nevertheless, this phenomenonexerts great impacts on local schools and on students studying overseas aswell.

P.S. I don't have enough time to write this essay
I have a few questions about DSE writing:
1. Is that I will get a higher mark if I write more words, usually?
2. How to get better marks in Content & Organization?
3. If I read more, will I perform better in DSE writing?
Thank you~
