A simple differentiation is whether you purchase the two items toether or not. For example when you purchase a CD, it is not necessary for you to buy the CD player. However when you buy a car, the wheels will(must) be accompanied with. In fact, derived demand for A from B means that A is B's factor of production. On the other hand, joint demand for A and B means they are in the relation of complements

Joint demand  -  from the perspective of consumption (using)(consumer goods)                            -   two goods have to be used at the same time to satisfy our wants
                             - e.g DVD and DVD    players,  
                                    films(菲林) and  traditional camera
                              -     we said Good A and Good B are in joint demand.
                             -    When price of Good A increases, demand for good B drops.

Derived demand  - from the perspective of production (capital goods)
                                - Good A is good (factor of production ) for facilitating production  of Good B
                                  (ORDER ＩＳ IMPORTANT)
                                  ( Can't be reversed)
                                - e.g
                                        demand for paper is a derived demand for magazine
                                        demand  for metal /glass is a derived demand for traditional camera.
                                When demand for traditional camera increases, the derived demand for metal/glass would increase as well.
