Which of the following is NOT a reason why a web site provides a pull-down menu instead of an empty box for the data entry of 'Date of Birth'?

(1) The input is certain and no validation is required.

(2) This ensures that the user has entered the data correctly.

(3) This is no confusion about the date format.

Ans : (1), (3)

Why is (3) NOT a reason while (2) is ?

Please help !!!!!

It seems to me that (2) is the ONLY choice that is NOT a reason why a web site provides a pull-down menu instead of an empty box for the data entry of 'Date of Birth', as such input design does not offer any checking mechanism to ensure whether a user has inputted his/her date of birth correctly.
