DSE 2013 Q.7
Asiansingers and movie stars are gaining popularity all over the world and are nolonger appealing only to Asian audiences. Write an article for your schoolnewspaper explaining why Asian stars are gaining popularity in Westerncountries. Give a title to your article.

More And More Asian Stars Rising Like A Starin Western Countries

Perhaps you are a fan of any popularAsian star, who may be a movie star likes Jacky Chan from Hong Kong, or singerslike Girl Generation from Korea, Yui from Japan...... Actually, it isacknowledged that Asian stars are no longer appealing only to Asian audiences, but to many people in the whole world, especially those in the Westerncountries.

In the past, Western stars were themainstream of the entertainment industry. The Hollywood and Oscar Award canshow the superior position of Western movies, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber areexamples of popular Western singers. On contrary, not too many Asian stars werefamous in the West. The situation changed in a few years ago, more and more Asianstars are gaining fame in the Western countries, so what are the reasons of thisphenomenon?

One of the factors must be globalization,as it provides an opportunity for stars to gain popularity in the global. Thelimits of time and regions are broken under globalization, people can easilyget in touch with other countries and learn about different cultures, includingtheir movies and music, hence more Asian stars become well-known oversea. Also,Asian stars can have more chances to participate in global activities so as to raisetheir popularity all over the world. Being famous in the Western countries,G.E.M. Tang, a Chinese-born Hong Kong singer, held lots of worldwide concerts andgot the name "China's Taylor Swift" from Western media in recentyears. Donnie Yen, a Hong Kong popular kung-fu actor, is active in Hollywoodmovies. These exemplify that globalization puts entertainment personalities underthe attention of the global audiences, and makes them become renowned inWestern countries.

Besides globalization, Internetcontributed a lot to the great popularity of Asian stars. Originally, stars needadequate resources to hold propaganda in order to gain popularity, Westernstars comparatively have an advantage as their country is better developed ineconomy and entertaining industry. However, Internet is more prevailing now, thepromotion fee is much lower on the Internet while the efficiency is remainhigh. Social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter provided a platformfor stars to communicate with their fans, and to keep being exposed to thepublic. Moreover, movies and songs from other countries can be purchased andwatched or listened online. Thus, we can see that Internet play a very importantrole on the rising popularity of Asian stars.

Last but not least, the capabilities ofacting or singing of Asian stars bring them to the world. Since the entertainmentindustry is in keen competition, personal abilities become the crux of whether astar can succeed or not. Let's have a look on Korea, every singer needed to experienceyears of training before they debut. In Hong Kong, TVB holds actor trainingcourse each year. These are the telling examples that Asian entertainmentcompanies are setting great store by the abilities of stars, and providing comprehensivetraining program. Hence, more and more Asian stars are well-trained and reallygood at acting or singing. When they do amazing performances on the stage, itis normal that they can attract audiences from any country. Needless to doubt, the excellent abilities of Asian stars help them be appealing to the Western audiences.

As the Asians, it is our pleasure andhonour to hear that Asian stars are gaining popularity in Western countries, oreven in the whole world. The situation implies that Asian entertainmentindustry is now in a bright boom. It is hoped that our stars can have a broaderfuture and reach a larger audiences in the world, I believe that many Asians willstand here and support them. Aren't you?

(其實"Asian audiences" 同 "those in Western countries" 吾系已經包曬全世界啦咩?What is the point of using the word "especially"?)

Asian singers and movie stars are gaining popularity all over the world and are no longer appealing only to Asian audiences. Write an article for your school newspaper explaining why Asian stars are gaining popularity in Western countries. Give a title to your article.

More And More Asian Stars Rising Like A Star in Western Countries
(The title seems to be too clumsy)

Perhaps you are a fan of any popular Asian star, who may be a movie star likes Jacky Chan from Hong Kong, or singers like Girl Generation from Korea, Yui from Japan...... Actually, it is acknowledged that Asian stars are no longer appealing only to Asian audiences, but to many people (all walks of life) in the whole world, especially those in the Western countries.

In the past, Western stars were the mainstream of the entertainment industry. The Hollywood and Oscar Award can show the superior position of Western movies, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber are examples of popular Western singers. On ^the contrary, not too many Asian stars were famous in the West. The situation changed in a few years ago, more and more Asian stars are gaining fame in the Western countries, so what are the reasons of this phenomenon? (good use of rhetorical question; showing the readers’ awareness)

One of the factors must (may) be globalization, as it provides an opportunity for stars to gain popularity in the global (world). The limits (constraints) of time and regions are broken under globalization, people can easily get in touch with other countries and learn about different cultures, including their movies and music, hence more Asian stars become well-known oversea (overseas). Also, Asian stars can have more chances to participate in global activities so as to raise their popularity all over the world. Being famous in the Western countries, G.E.M. Tang, a Chinese-born Hong Kong singer, held lots (mountains) of worldwide concerts and got the name "China's Taylor Swift" from Western media in recent years. Donnie Yen, a Hong Kong popular kung-fu actor, is active in Hollywood movies. These exemplify that globalization puts entertainment personalities under the attention of the global audiences, and makes them become renowned in Western countries. (Good argument and examples are shown)

Besides globalization, Internet contributed a lot to the great popularity of Asian stars. (It’s good since cohesion between paragraphs is shown.) Originally, stars need adequate resources to hold propaganda in order to gain popularity, Western stars comparatively have an advantage as their country is better developed in economy and entertaining industry. However, Internet is more prevailing
now, the promotion fee is much lower on the Internet while the efficiency is remain (remaining) high. Social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter provided a platform for stars to communicate with their fans, and to keep being exposed to the public. Moreover, movies and songs from other countries can be purchased and watched or listened online. Thus, we can see that Internet play a very important role on the rising popularity of Asian stars. (Good use of some vocabulary)

Last but not least, the capabilities of acting or singing of Asian stars bring them to the world. Since the entertainment industry is in keen competition, personal abilities become the crux of whether aster (a star) can succeed or not. Let's have a look on Korea, every singer needed to experience years of training before they debut. In Hong Kong, TVB holds actor training course each year. These are the telling (Xtelling) examples that Asian entertainment companies are setting great store by the abilities of stars, and providing comprehensive training program. Hence, more and more Asian stars are well-trained and really good at acting or singing. When they do amazing performances on the stage, its normal that they can attract audiences from any country. Needless to doubt, the excellent abilities of Asian stars help them be appealing to the Western audiences.

As the Asians, it is our pleasure and honour to hear that Asian stars are gaining popularity in Western countries, or even in the whole world. It is hoped that our stars can have a broader future and reach a larger audiences in the world, I believe that many Asians will stand here and support them. Aren't you? (Good use of rhetorical questions to show readers’ awareness)

This writing is quite good since you include some examples as an illustration. And you show an attempt to generalize the reasons for the popularity of Asian stars in different perspectives. You are generally aware of the reader (students) despite some room for improvement. For language, sophisticated vocabulary is shown.
l
However, more sentence patterns can be shown. Your discussion can be more concise also. Still you have a good performance in your writing. Add oil for DSE! I’m also the 2016 DSE candidate.
