歷屆常見問題 (不定期更新)

R本睡意正濃,卻一時技癢,就動手寫幾寫吧。今次跟大家分享這幾年在小卒看到的,跟自己平日被問到的一些疑難什錦,希望可以一解各同學心中的疑團,還能收啟發之效 (一笑)。

Plate Tectonics and Natural Hazards (板塊運動及自然災害)
別以為這課很簡單,有某些MC陰得很,大家要小心。

1) 地震/斷層/火山爆發/海嘯諸類現象是不是自然災害?
咁直接問得,答案當然是 不(一定)!

原因是甚麼? 先想一下吧。



2) Which of the following phenomena are caused by volcanic eruptions?
- earthquakes
- acid rain (酸雨)
- forest fire (林火)
- collapse of buildings (建築物倒塌)
- tsunami

5者皆可。
Volcanic eruption和earthquake 將有機會引致tsunami
但earthquake 則未必會引致volcanic eruption, 但volcanic eruption則一定會引發地震
原因如下:
Since earthquake may not necessary be the result of magma/tectonicactivities, this can be due to other reasons. Yet a volcanic eruptionis the result of magma extrusion, and even a small scale of volcaniceruption will generate small earthquakes.


3) The secondary effects (間接災害) of an earthquake
- landslides
- tsunamis
- soil liquefaction (泥石流)
- fire hazard (gas leakage)
- traffic congestion
- flooding

4)怎樣界定何者為大陸/海洋板塊?
- 一般以板塊裡陸地/海洋比例較高的以劃分。


5)香港有endogenetic activities 嗎?
- Lion Mt was a volcano. Folded rocks are found in 東坪洲 as well.

6) No subduction, No volcano?

7) folding都可以有fault ga?
對!folding 會引致faulting因為When the pressure held by rock exceeds the elasticity of rock layers, it breaks and fault line may form as a result.

8) 我想問地震通常發生向邊兩個板塊邊界?常人都會答是破壞和建設。但是我黎海天的筆記寫話﹐環太平洋的折曲山脈帶吻合﹐它位於破壞性和穩定性板塊邊界﹐世界上大部份地震出現在這地帶。次要地震帶是大西洋中脊及東非大裂穀。他們位於建設性板塊上﹐世上只有少量地震位於那地震帶。
地震帶通常發生係環太平洋,依個係事實
我地話破壞和建設
好多時係因為平常人會誤將發生既頻繁程度同佢地既威力 混淆

其實,地震最頻繁,應該係板塊運動最活躍既地方
而地球上屬於破壞性板塊既數量比其餘兩者多
因而 我地話Destructive > Constructive 板塊產生地震既數量

至於地震既強烈程度
則依次由
Destructive > Conservative > Constructive plate boundaries








River & Exogenetic processes

1) What is time lag?
- time lag = time difference between peak rainfall and peak discharge, not end of rainfall and peak discharge
- Time lag between the maximum intensity of rainfall and the peak discharge becomes shorter when the amount of precipitation increases.

2) Intrusion of sea water 通常有咩原因 ?
因為river既discharge 同velocity都唔夠令到係河口既海水會intru返入去,造成 delta area decreases的可能

3) River input, process, output?
Inputs - 就係令成條river可以運作既 "原動力" 包括
- Rock Debris
- Precipitation
- Solar radiation
- Gradient
- Vegetation
- Minerals

Process 就係所有Fluvial process
- Erosion
- deposition
- transportation
- infiltration

Outputs 就係河流產物
- sediments
- minerals
- evapotranspiration
- water
- shape of river channel

4) Explain why the construction of a road on a slope may lead to the higher surface runoff on the slope.
The construction of road may increase surface runoff as infiltration decreases.
Since when there is rainfall, rain water may originally partly infiltrates into the soil, but as when concrete road is built, it blocks the rain water from infiltrating into the soil. Hence, surface runoff increases.

5) 怎樣解決drying up of Huang he?
一般有4大方向:
a) increase water supply
- drilling more wells
- increasing water storage facilities by building more dams to store water (e.g. Xiaolangdi)

b) reduce water consumption
- control water usage by legislation
- develop water conservation technology for water-demanding activities
- e.g. drip irrigation projects and use of drought-resistant varieties
- readjust the industrial structure

c) reduce water wastage
- by education
- arousing public concern over the importance of water conservation
- increase the waster charges

d) improve water resources management
- regulate the water stored and the drainage of the reservoirs in times of drought
- maintenance of the reservoirs and the river channels in the Huang he basin

1. 因為這些災害並不涉及人為因素/涉及極少。如只有地下核爆才能引發地震。 其他如水災、旱災 的人為因素佔例很高,而且通過人類活動可以使這些災害得到緩和;相反地震、火山爆發等天然災害不能由人類控制。
