Arts subjects such as Chinese History, History and Geography do NOT need ultra-high marks (90~100%) for an A !!
I think around 80% is normally OK while 85~90% is very safe in whatever years; this is because the above subjects comprise both conventional (or DBQs for history subjects) and essay-type questions, making it virtually impossible to obtain near-perfect scores.
Arts students normally find it easier to obtain a credit in History (and Geography) when compared to Chinese History, but more difficult to improve further once the overall score hits 8x% ( the highest mark for each essay-type question is around 27~28 out of 30 ). Hence, mid to high 80s out of 100 MUST pass with flying colours.
Students obtaining 90% or above have attained their highest echelon of arts subjects; they're highly revered by teachers ( i.e. respected with admiration and awe ) and must be considered to be an exception.
