I am wondering if its because
anerobic resp will produce lactic acid, causing muscle fatigue
so it can just be used in short distance running for extra supply of energy for a short time
so 100m runners can use it and their muscles can contract stronger
as for marathon runner, to avoid build up of lactic acid they wont choose to use it until the end of the race so most of the time they use aerobic only
thus when compared with 100m runners who use anerobic+aerobic almost in the whole course of the race they run slower??
